Stunning, professional frame-off restoration on a very solid original car with attention to every detail. Looks like a fresh restoration but was done 6 years ago. finished in Red wtih Tan Connolly leather interior, Black Hartz Canvas top, Tan canvas tonneau cover. Show quality paint and chrome. Has new Dayton Dhrome wire wheels. Mechanically, the engine, transmission, starter, steering, suspension, and rear end have all been rebuilt. to correct numbers-matching factory specifications (original vin tag). It starts easily and runs like it did in 1956. Only 1,012 miles since the restoration. This is a highly correct, breathtaking example of a truly exciting XK. Has won best of class every time out. This is a Jaguar you can show and drive. Enjoy it now, nothing is needed.

Car was imported to New Zealand by Paul A. Salt, probably in the 80s. Car is mentioned in "The Jaguar XK120 in the Southern Hemisphere" by John Elmgreen & Terry McGrath.

This 1956 Jaguar XK140 SE roadster was refurbished in the early 2010s and was acquired by the seller in 2023 out of the Wilson Collection in Florida. Subsequent work involved installing fixed-back bucket seats and replacement carpets as well as replacing the water pump, exhaust manifold, ignition components, starter, brake master cylinder, and exhaust system. The car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission fitted with close-ratio gears, and it is finished in red over tan and red leather. Features include a removable black soft top, removable side curtains, front disc brakes, 16″ wire wheels, Lucas fog lights, and a Derrington steering wheel. This XK140 is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, and a South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The car came finished from the factory in black and was repainted red in 2013. Features include a removable black soft top, removable side curtains, a split windshield, Lucas fog lights, a front hood strap, and full-width chrome bumpers with overriders.

The 16″ wire wheels were mounted with Vredestein tires in 2020. A spare is stored under the trunk floor, and braking is handled by front discs and aluminum rear drums. The brake master cylinder was replaced in 2024.

The fixed-back bucket seats are trimmed in red and tan leather and were sourced from John Skinner of the UK under current ownership. Replacement red carpeting was also installed along with soundproofing and a replacement armrest and interior panels. Latch-and-link lap belts are fitted.

The wood-rimmed Derrington steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The speedometer cable was replaced under current ownership, and the five-digit odometer shows 4k miles, approximately 1,200 of which were added under current ownership. The seller states the mileage is not accurate, and total mileage is unknown. The analog clock does not work.

The 3.4-liter inline-six featured dual SU carburetors from the factory for a rating of 210 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. A high-output starter was installed in 2024. Additional work since then has included replacing water pump, exhaust manifold, ignition coil, spark plugs and wires, oil pressure line, and oil breather hose.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission said to be fitted with close-ratio gears. A replacement exhaust system was installed in 2024.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors and serial numbers along with a build date of June 22, 1956.

The South Carolina title lists “Exempt” under the brands section.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
