    SOLD $104,500

Originally finished in black, this exquisite XK150S was officially manufactured on September 12, 1958, and exported to Jaguar Cars New York just over two weeks later. Little is known of the interim history of this Jaguar but, by the 1990s, its owner began to make serious strides in renewing its inherent grandeur and panache. On May 26, 1992, this car was certified by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust to be an authentic and proper example.

This lithe and handsome Jaguar XK has been repainted in Carmen Red and its original 3.4-litre engine was replaced with the more prodigious 3.8-litre motor which debuted in the D-Type race car and became available in the XK150 towards the end of the model’s run. A natural upgrade that is consistent with proper Jaguar presentation, this enhanced motor provides more powerful, responsive acceleration characteristics and an exhilarating driving experience.

This fine XK150 S enjoyed numerous judging accolades during the 1990s, including 2nd place awards at the 1999 and 2000 Santa Barbara Concours d’Elegance and Best in Class wins at the 1998 XK150 National Event, the 1998 JOCCA Concours in San Luis Obispo and the 2000 JCNA Concours d’Elegance in San Diego. With its shining paint finish and sparkling chrome, this magnificent XK open two-seater displays the positive effects of its last 20 years in Southern California’s mild climate. It is a beautifully presented and certifiably proper example of the ultimate evolution of Jaguar’s classic XK – fast, elegant and handsome.

I am familiar with this car as I am the one who restored her in exactly 100 days...just in time for the XK event in 1998. I had rebuilt the 3.4 litre engine, but it seems the current owner has increased the displacement to 3.8. It's nice to see the car is still in great condition, and should it come up for auction again, I would consider repurchasing her. She's a wonderful car.

    Private Party or Dealer: Dealer

This 1958 Jaguar XK150 is a left-hand-drive, open two-seater that was built on September 12, 1958 and distributed new through Jaguar Cars of New York. A restoration was performed in the late 1990s, after which the car won best in class at the 2000 JCNA Concours d’Elegance in San Diego, as well as second place at the Santa Barbara Concours d’ Elegance in 1999 and 2000. Between 2002 and 2003, Vantage Motorsports of Stamford, Connecticut rebuilt the inline-six to 3.8-liter specifications with upgraded pistons, camshafts, crankshaft, and flywheel. Equipment includes triple SU carburetors, chrome wire wheels, a stainless steel dual exhaust, TIG-welded aluminum radiator, and a five-speed gearbox conversion. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2012 and sold it to a private collector in Texas, who recently traded it back towards an E-Type. Service by Jeff’s Resurrections of Taylor, Texas in March 2019 included rebuilding the rear brake calipers, as well as installing new brake pads, a new clutch slave cylinder, and four Michelin X tires. This XK150 OTS is now being offered in New York with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a tool kit, maintenance manual, and a clean Texas title.

The seats and door panels are trimmed in black leather, and black and red Coco mats cover black carpets. A modern JVC stereo is mounted below the dash, and two speakers are positioned in the rear bulkhead. A factory-style shift knob has been engraved with a five-speed pattern and tops a chrome shifter lever.

Originally delivered with a 3.4-liter “S” engine, the car is now powered by a replacement XK inline-six, which has been rebuilt by Vantage Motors and enlarged from 3.4 to 3.8 liters. Induction is through triple SU HD8 carburetors, and the engine is reported to feature an upgraded crankshaft, pistons, camshafts, and a lightened flywheel. A modern TIG-welded aluminum radiator and replacement wiring harness were also installed by Vantage Motors.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate confirms the original colors and specification, as well as build and dispatch dates. Ownership history and event participation provided by the seller is as follows:

Owned by Mr. Harvey Blake Jones of Nevada in the 1980s

Purchased in 1997 by Mathew Thomas, dealer principal at Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles, California

    Restored 1997-1999

2nd place at 1999 and 2000 Santa Barbara Concours d’Elegance

Best in class at 1998 XK150 National Event and 1998 JOCCA Concours in San Luis Obispo, California

Best in class at 2000 JCNA Concours d’Elegance in San Diego, California

Sold in 2001 to an East Coast collector

    Mechanical refresh 2002-2003

Sold in March 2010 to Mr. Chernow of Jupiter, Florida.

Acquired by selling dealer and sold to a private client in 2012

    1958 Jaguar XK150S Roadster

    ASKING PRICE $159,500

Vehicle Location St. Louis, Missouri 63146

    VIN # T831359DN

    Mileage 10,683

    Body Style Roadster

    Exterior Color red

    Interior red/black

This particular 1958 Jaguar XK150 S Roadster was dispatched from the factory on September 29, 1958, and distributed through Jaguar Cars of New York. The JDHT Certificate on file notes the cars’ original specification of black/black/black. Today it is presented in a striking and traditional color combination of Carmen Red over red and black leather, complemented by a matching red convertible top. The bold colors suit the sweeping lines of the XK150 S particularly well, emphasizing the car’s graceful proportions and unmistakable British sporting character.

Over the years this XK150 S has been thoughtfully prepared as a highly usable and enjoyable touring car. While the model was originally delivered with the 3.4-liter engine, it is now powered by a XK150 S motor stamped VS1316-9 that has been rebuilt and enlarged to 3.8 liters, and is mated to a Tremec 5-speed gearbox. The engine rebuild was performed by a respected Jaguar specialist, and benefits from numerous performance and reliability upgrades designed to enhance both drivability and durability.

Induction is handled by triple SU HD8 carburetors, while the engine features a number of internal upgrades including an improved crankshaft, upgraded pistons, revised camshafts, and a lightened flywheel. Together these enhancements combined with a stainless-steel exhaust deliver stronger performance and more immediate response while retaining the smooth, effortless character that defines Jaguar’s XK engine. A TIG-welded aluminum radiator improves cooling efficiency, and a replacement wiring harness further supports dependable operation.

The chassis has likewise been upgraded with Spax adjustable shock absorbers, helping provide confident handling and a composed ride during spirited driving or extended touring. Brake work performed in 2022 further contributes to the car’s well-sorted character, ensuring strong and predictable stopping performance.

Inside the cockpit, the red and black leather interior presents very well, with the seats recently reupholstered to a high standard. The cabin maintains the classic Jaguar atmosphere with traditional instrumentation, while an XM radio and GPS speedometer provide convenience and accuracy for modern driving. The overall presentation remains faithful to the XK150’s original spirit while subtly incorporating improvements that make the car easier and more enjoyable to use today.

Under the bonnet, the engine bay is clean and tidy, reflecting careful maintenance and thoughtful preparation.
