I really like seeing pictures of the cars at their "low" before they are restored, In a lot of ways it's more interesting then pictures of the "well preserved" cars, In California especially around the college campuses (like Berkeley) it was commonplace to see ratty old British sport cars in not much better shape than the one pictured here being driven as everyday cars. I know all too well because I was one of the teenage kids who could just scrape together enough money to buy one... I bought my first XK in 1973, I paid $450 for an XK140DHC, I wanted a XK120 but I could find on I could afford... how times have changed.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
