Ebay item 1/24/13

www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2014-11-29/cars/1952-jaguar-xk120-ots.aspx

Sellers description:

Registration HSL878

Chassis Number 674797

Engine Number D58377-8

Estimate £62,000 - £68,000

1954 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

s/n 674797

British Racing Green with Saddle Leather

This particular car was sold originally in the USA as a left hand drive example. It was exported to the UK and restored by Longmate Vintage Restoration, Oaklands Lane, Runoton Holme, Kings Lynn, Norfolk during 1993, as documented by the receipts in the file. During the restoration the car was converted to RHD. The car was sold by Classic Automobiles Worldwide of London, to an American living and working in London in 2001. Upon his return to the United States in 2001, he brought the car with him back to California, where it has remained since.

The car has excellent panel fit, and the paint has held up extremely well. There are some small scrapes and blemishes in the paint but the overall impression is still very strong. The interior and top which were also restored have also held up well, with minor wear apparent on the driver's seat only. The car is equipped with wire wheels, tri bar headlights, and driving lights. The car sounds and runs well, and we would welcome any type of pre-purchase inspection. The car is fitted with an electric fan for use in modern traffic.

Sold - £69,440

Car to be at auction 3/14

www.coys.co.uk/auction.php

Auction description:

Lot 130 - 1954 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

Estimate: £55,000 - £70,000

Registration Number: HSL 878

Chassis Number: 674797

We are pleased to offer today a very late example, dating from the final year of production, which has, interestingly, undertaken even more ocean travel than most other XKs. It was sold new in the USA and stayed there for several decades until it was repatriated in the 1980s, before a shorter final sojourn in California.

On its first return to these shores over twenty years ago, it underwent a considerable amount of very high-quality restoration work at Longmate's Vintage Restorations, of Norfolk which included rebuilding the car to right hand drive specification, to the correct specification. After some years' use, however, the car changed hands once more, this time passing into the ownership of an executive of the Bechtel civil engineering corporation in 1997. Having returned to California, however, after what was clearly a very enjoyable period of ownership in Europe, he found the right-hand drive configuration impractical, and for a second time in its life the car crossed the Atlantic. One of the most interesting items in the car's history file is a letter describing the fun he had with the car, including trips to the South of France as he puts it 'without incident' !

Having had only very sparing use in last few years the car has just undergone some precautionary recommissioning work at the premises of the well-known London vintage car authority Bob Thredder, including work to the braking system and the issuing of a still-current MOT certificate, and new chromed wire wheels. Details of these works can be found in the car's history file, along with an XK120 handbook, maintenance records and parts purchased while in America.

The livery sensibly chosen when the car was returned to the UK the first time was of course the traditional and highly suitable British Racing Green, which remains in most pleasing condition and has clearly been the result of very careful use and maintenance, and the interior is trimmed in a contrasting and very sympathetic shade of Biscuit hide, including the dashboard. The car retains all its weather equipment, hood and sidescreens, in black vinyl, all the correct and highly distinctive exterior trim and brightwork, foglights and so forth.

A delightful and beautifully matured example all round, offered at a most attractive estimate.

This car has chassis S675322 even though it is wearing an aftermarket data plate stamped with S674797, a matching numbers car with the exception of the chassis. Please see more information at chassis S674797.

Car S675322, sold new in the USA, was customized including the incorporation of 1955 Corvette headlights and a plaque screwed to the bulkhead cowl saying “Custom built by Craig Fullerton”. Thereafter, the car had been rolled and was being broken up for parts when found at JK Restorations in Oswego, Illinois in November 1988. The front body section and a few other parts were sold to Australia.  ...
