Car to be at auction 6/10
www.historics.co.uk/buying/online-catalogue/1954-jaguar-xk120-drophead-coupe.asp ...

Auction description:
* Registration: FIL120
* Chassis Number: 677643
* Engine Number: tbc
* Mileage: tbc
* Estimate: £50,000-£60,000

Recently discovered in a garage where it has been stored and little used over the last 20 years. Historics are delighted to offer this hidden gem, recently the result of a re-commissioning operation and presented in the rare colour scheme of Pastel Green with matching green leather interior and carpets. The body is reportedly rust free throughout and the walnut door cappings, dash and 'A' post is all in good order. The hood has been recently replaced and overall represents an extremely attractive package.

Auction description:
Lot 82
1953 Jaguar XK120 Drophead Coupé
Registration no. 884 YUD Chassis no. 677643 Engine no. W9171-8
£80,000 - 120,000
US$ 110,000 - 170,000
Auction 23589:
Goodwood Members' Meeting
13:00 GMT
Chichester, Goodwood

This XK120 drophead was purchased by the current vendor in 2014 having been restored a couple of years previously, in the course of which it was converted from left- to right-hand drive. An old auction catalogue description, dating from 2010, states that the XK had been discovered in a garage where it had been stored and little used over the preceding 20 years. The car incorporates several of the most desirable upgrades including a five-speed gearbox, disc brakes, power assisted steering, seat belts, and 12-volt alternator electrics. Finished in the unusual colour scheme of Pastel Green with matching leather upholstery and carpets, this restored and improved XK120 is offered with sundry restoration invoices, a V5C registration document and current MoT.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
