This 1955 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe was purchased by the seller as a project from the reported original owner in 2001, and a subsequent refurbishment was completed in 2008. Work involved repainting the car in Pacific Blue, replacing the Sand soft top, retrimming the Biscuit leather upholstery, refinishing the wood dashboard, rebuilding the 3.4-liter inline-six and the four-speed manual transmission, and overhauling the chassis. Features include 16″ wire wheels, dual SU carburetors, a dual exhaust system, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and lap belts. This XK140 is now offered with refurbishment records and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car was stripped, rust was repaired, and the body was repainted in Pacific Blue during the aforementioned 2000s refurbishment, the seller tells us. The drop-head Sand soft top was replaced, and other equipment includes a split windshield, front vent windows, a driver-side mirror, bright trim, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers.
Chrome-finished 16″ wire wheels are mounted with 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato radial tires. A spare is stored under the trunk floor. Braking is handled by drums at each corner.
The adjustable front seats have been retrimmed in Biscuit leather. The wood dashboard was refinished during the refurbishment, and other interior appointments include tan carpeting, front lap belts, crank windows, a cabin heater, a defroster, and door-panel storage pockets.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 5,500-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. Some instruments were repaired during the refurbishment. The five-digit odometer shows 6k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. The seller states that the odometer reading is not accurate, and true mileage is unknown. The odometer and the fuel gauge are inoperative.
The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was rebuilt during the refurbishment.
The four-speed manual transmission also has been rebuilt under current ownership.
