This 1961 Jaguar XK150 is a fixed head coupe that was manufactured in May 1960 and was acquired by the current owner’s husband in California over 35 years ago as a project car. A comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment was commissioned and completed in 2002, including a bare-metal repaint in Silver Gray Metallic, renewing of body panels, new upholstery, and more as outlined in the listing below. Power is provided by a replacement 3.8L inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors and backed by a Tremec 5-speed gearbox. Additional alterations include a custom XKE Series 1 dashboard, telescoping steering column with Nardi steering wheel, and XJS Series 1 seats. This XK150 is now being offered on behalf of the current owner with records dating back to 1969, photos from the refurbishment, the owner’s manual, spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean California title.
During the refurbishment, the roof was replaced and the body panels were removed and refitted before the car was painted in Silver Gray Metallic (2639). Paint blemishes are noted. 16″ wire wheels with splined hubs are fitted with 185-width Universal Sport Radial tires. The brakes were reportedly checked during a mechanical inspection in May 2019.
A modified XKE Series 1 dashboard has been fitted along with a custom telescoping steering column and a Nardi three-spoke steering wheel. Smiths instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 67k miles, with the true mileage unknown.
Gray leather seats from an XJS Series 1 are equipped, and the rear seats and door panels feature similar material. Replacement red carpets have been fitted to the floors, lower door panels, and trunk compartment, and red leather boots are wrapped around shifter and E-brake handle.
The 3.8L inline-six was reportedly sourced from a 1963 XKE and rebuilt before installation, and is equipped with triple SU carburetors and an aftermarket electric fan. Service in May 2019 is said to have included an oil change, carburetor adjustment, and general inspection.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a custom Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox that is said to match the original gear ratios.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a manufacture date of May 20, 1960 along with the factory colors.
Included in the sale are several boxes of documentation, notes, and reference materials, along with extra parts such as a power steering conversion kit, chrome-plated bumper guards, and more.
