Car was at auction in '05

Auction description:
Lot 62: 1954 JAGUAR XK120 SE ROADSTER
Exceptional Motor Cars, Christies (18th August 2005)
Overview
Opalescent blue with blue and grey leather interior and blue top

Engine: straight six, double overhead camshaft, H8 sand cast carburetors, 3,422cc, c180bhp at 5,250rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: front, independent with double wishbones and longitudinal torsion bars, rear, live axle, semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: hydraulic four wheel drum. Left hand drive.

The car offered here was originally delivered sold by Bill Frick Motors of Long Island, New York on 6 April 1954 to Mr. Denis A. Sourwine of Brooklyn, New York for the sum of $3,300. The XK120 remained in Mr. Sourwine's care (having moved to Illinois) until 10 February 1989 with just 21,161 miles when it was sold to a dealer named D-Power of Buda, Texas. Later that same year it was then sold by Rick Cole Auctions in August 1989 to the Old Philadelphia Motor Company. The XK120 resided there for just over four years when it went through a series of quick transactions including the Blackhawk Collection and Symbolic Motor Cars until finally joining the care of Mr. Jake Weaver of Ridgeland, Mississippi on 8 February 1994. The car spent the almost 10 years with Mr. Weaver before being sold to its current owner. Showing a mere 21,260 miles this XK120 appears in stunning condition. Complete with the original bill of sale, owners' manual, tools, spare tire, jack, fitted Jaguar luggage and charming white wall tires, the interior is finished in an extremely rare two-tone leather. Mechanically this XK120 is completely sorted with all systems operating at peak performance.

Christie's is pleased to present such an incredibly fine example with such limited and well documented ownership. Arguably, this may well be one of the finest examples available.

Car was bought at the Christie’s auction in 2005 by Sam Linder who owned the Monterey Ca Jaguar dealership and kept it on the showroom floor. This is why it had so few miles added to the car while he owned it.

In 2010 (approx) the car was shown at the Monterey Jaguar exhibit across from the Bonhams & Butterfield auction. the car was displayed next to the XJ13.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
