This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was built in June 1954 and was distributed to its original owner in Ohio via Max Hoffman Motors of New York, New York. The car was acquired out of Virginia by the current owner’s father in 2014 and subsequently was subjected to a refurbishment that was completed in 2018 and performed by Donovan Motorcar Service of Lenox, Massachusetts. Work involved repainting the car in cream over retrimmed red leather upholstery, rebuilding the 3.4-liter inline-six, installing a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, and overhauling the electrical, braking, cooling, and other systems. The tan convertible top is complemented by a matching tonneau cover and side curtains, and other equipment includes dual SU carburetors, chrome 16” wire wheels, front disc brakes, rear tube shocks, an aluminum radiator, an auxiliary electric cooling fan, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and Smiths gauges. The current owner inherited the car in 2023. This XK120 SE is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records and photos, an owner’s manual, a service manual, a tool kit, uninstalled seatbelts and wind wings, and a clean Massachusetts title.
Finished from the factory in Cream, the car received bodywork and was stripped and refinished during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior equipment includes a replacement tan convertible top, a two-piece windshield, chrome front bumpers, chrome rear bumperettes, and polished dual exhaust outlets. A paint correction was performed and ceramic coating was added in September 2024.
Chrome 16” wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires measuring 185HR16. Braking is provided by front discs and rear drums, and an uprated front sway bar and Koni rear shock absorbers are fitted.
The cabin features split seats with red leather upholstery accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Amenities include a heater, a passenger-side grab handle, door-panel map pockets, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror.
The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 700 miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated since completion of the refurbishment; true mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six features dual SU carburetors. A C-type-style “big valve” cylinder head, “WAD” high-torque camshafts, a Ron Davis Racing Products aluminum radiator, a hydraulic timing-chain tensioner, and Cometic gaskets were fitted in 2015, and an updated rear main seal was accommodated via custom machining. An auxiliary electric cooling fan with a manual actuation switch also has been added. The selling dealer states that the car has been stored since 2022.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Tremec five-speed manual transmission.
The Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Record Trace certificate lists serial numbers, colors, distribution information, and a build date of June 1, 1954.
Photos of the car captured during the refurbishment process are available.
