This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE is a left-hand-drive roadster that was completed on June 11, 1954, and distributed through Los Angeles-based importer Charles Hornburg. The car was acquired by the seller several years ago and subsequently refurbished with a repaint in light blue, an interior refresh using dark blue leather, and overhauls of the replacement 4.2-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. The chassis is said to have been replaced with an XK150-sourced unit, and additional equipment includes dual SU carburetors, a Bell exhaust system, rack-and-pinion steering, front disc brakes, and replacement Smiths instrumentation. The seller states that further work is required before the car can be road-worthy. This XK120 SE running project is now offered with a tool kit, a service handbook, refurbishment photos, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, and a Washington State title in the seller’s name.

The car was stripped to bare metal, and the doors, hood, and trunk lid were replaced prior to a repaint in light blue under current ownership. The convertible top and seat frames were repainted to match the original grey color and a replacement tan soft top has been installed. The brightwork is said to have been refinished, and the side indicators, taillights, and license plate lamp were reportedly replaced. Further exterior details include a split-front windshield, a leaper hood ornament, chrome-finished front bumpers and rear bumperettes, driving lamps, and fender vents. The windshield trim shows wear, and an imperfection in the paint is visible on the left-rear wheel spat.

Body-color 16″ steel wheels wear Jaguar-branded hubcaps and are mounted with 6.00-16 Avon Turbospeed MK4 ties, while a matching spare is housed in the trunk compartment. The car rides on a replacement chassis reportedly sourced from an XK150 along with aftermarket shocks and gaiter-wrapped rear leaf springs. It is equipped with rack-and-pinion steering, and stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums. The seller states that replacement brake cylinders, stainless-steel lines, and flexible hoses have been fitted. The front brake booster is inoperative.

The cabin houses seats that have been reupholstered in dark blue leather and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. The seller states that the driver-side foot well has been extended and an XK150-sourced pedal box has been installed. Additional appointments include a rearview mirror, a passenger grab handle, heel pads, and map pockets in both doors.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of replacement Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 374 miles, approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown and the horn is inoperative.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is said to have been sourced from a 1968 XKE model and was reportedly overhauled before being installed under current ownership. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors as well as an XK140-sourced radiator that is said to have been re-cored. The electrical system was overhauled under current ownership, and the fuel tank along with the fuel sending unit and pump were replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission that was reportedly overhauled by Vintage Jag Works of Blackfoot, Idaho. The seller states that a hydraulic clutch has been fitted and the CV joints along with the Salisbury rear axle bearings were replaced. A Bell stainless-steel dual exhaust system has been installed.

The 2021 Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors, identification numbers, build date, and distribution through Hornburg of New York. A service manual, a tool kit, and a pair of removable side curtains are also included.

Photos documenting various stages of refurbishment work are included.

The Washington title carries an “Antique” brand.
