Car to be at Coy's auction:
www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php
Auction description:
Fine Motor Cars
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire
Saturday 5th July 2008
Lot 438
1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster
Registration no: FSJ 352
Chassis no: S676051
Estimate: £25,000-32,000
Manufactured on July 13th 1954 and exported to its first owner in America 10 days later, this left-hand drive XK 120 Special Equipment model was returned to Great Britain in the mid-1990s. Subsequently it was the subject of a complete restoration, completed in January 1998 by Hampshire-based Phoenix Restorations, the work including fitment of new seats and trim, new hood and side-screens, a stainless steel exhaust system, new chromed wire wheels, including the spare, and a boot rack; this originally Special Equipment model also boasts an engine fitted with a C Type cylinder head and twin sand-cast SU H8 carburettors. Completely devoid of rust courtesy of more than 40 years spent in the warm climes of America, and in the same ownership since 1992, the car has covered fewer than 1,000 miles since its restoration 10 years ago.
Finished in its original colour of cream with a black hood, and with complementary red dashboard and black seats, this splendid Jaguar has just been fitted with a high output starter motor, a Kenlowe electric engine cooling fan and had its engine finely tuned. Supplied with a small history file that includes a V5C registration document, all post-restoration MoT test certificates, a current certificate valid for one year, a Jaguar Cars Limited Vehicle Information Sheet, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, and an original Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook, this is a beautifully presented and very desirable XK 120 which is offered in excellent overall condition.

Car to be at auction 10/17

Auction description:
Lot 20
1954 Jaguar XK 120SE Roadster
€110,000 - 130,000
US$ 130,000 - 150,000
The Padua Auction
Chassis no. S676051
* Delivered new to Kansas, USA
* Restored in the UK in the late 1990s
* C-type cylinder head
* Offered from a private museum collection
* Registered in the UK
According to the accompanying JDHT Heritage certificate, this XK 120 Roadster was dispatched from the Coventry factory on 23rd July 1954 and sold via the distributor Hornburg of Los Angeles to its first owner, one Kenneth Crippen of Garrett, Kansas. It was manufactured as a Special Equipment model, featuring SU H8 carburettors, cream exterior, red leather interior, and black soft-top.
After 43 years in the drier states of the USA, the car was sold to a collector in the UK who registered it as 'FSJ 352'. Shortly thereafter he sent the XK to Phoenix Restorations of Hampshire for restoration. This entailed re-spraying the body in white; installing new seats; trimming the interior in black leather with matching carpets; installing a new soft-top and side windows; and fitting a new set of wire wheels (including the spare). The odometer was reset to zero.
At some time between December 2003 and 2008, the engine was replaced with a rebuilt XK120 'W' engine, a black-block unit fitted with a later C-type head. In 2008 the car was sold through an auction in the UK to its present owner, who felt it should be exhibited in his Museum in Athens, Greece instead of driven. It has been maintained by the museum's own mechanics as part of its careful preservation programme.
We are advised that the engine (number 'W4438-8') appears overhauled with new gaskets and seals, and there are no visible leaks. The engine's number indicates that it is a genuine XK120 unit produced early in 1952. The matching cam covers have the later 11 studs, so it would seem that an earlier block has been used with a later C-type head and SU H8 carburettors. In this specification the maximum power of the 3.4-litre XK engine was quoted as 210bhp.
The chassis' underside is accident-free, with no evidence of repairs, while the body appears straight and the paint is uniformly excellent. The windscreen glass, chrome surround, and wipers are in excellent condition. The front bumpers are dent-free and presentable with only some minor pitting, as are the rear bumpers. All wheels are in very good shape.
The interior is in very good condition, its leather trim still fresh and with no tears or blemishes, while the dashboard instruments are clear and legible. The soft-top, side windows, and powder-coated hood frame are in 'as new' condition. Other noteworthy features include upgraded suspension, a high-output starter motor, and a Burgess stainless steel dual exhaust system.
Accompanying documentation consists of a Jaguar Cars Limited Vehicle Information Sheet; a quantity of expired MoT certificates; current UK registration V5C Registration Certificate; and the aforementioned Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate. The car also comes with an Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook (copy), a Spare Parts catalogue (copy), and two sets of keys.
