This 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drop Head Coupe was purchased by its previous owner without an engine in 1970, and was subsequently fitted with a 292ci V8 from a 1961 Mercury along with a later Ford automatic transmission. The modifications were performed personally by the prior owner, who regularly drove the car with his wife until his passing in 2012. It reportedly sat for the next six years until recently being acquired by the selling dealer from the late owner's grandson. A handwritten logbook documents part numbers, significant events, and mechanical issues from 1983-2012. This V8-powered Jaguar is offered with a clean North Carolina title.
The car was last repainted in 1991 according to the included logbook. The finish is described as driver-quality by the selling dealer, who notes a few sub-par repairs and a color discrepancy on the right rear fender. A small bubble is also present on the left rear wheel well.
This Jaguar retains a factory differential, suspension, and brakes according to the selling dealer. The folding soft top houses a plastic rear window.
Brown vinyl seat upholstery is accented with corresponding door panels and dark red carpeting. A non-original woodgrain dashboard is fitted along with a 4-spoke steering wheel and a floor-mounted shifter for the Ford automatic transmission. The 5-digit odometer shows just under 800 miles, with total chassis mileage unknown.
The 292ci V8 was reportedly transplanted from a 1961 Mercury in 1970, and is equipped with polished rocker covers and a high-flow air cleaner. In 2011 the previous owner replaced a fuel pump, changed the oil, and serviced the ignition system. Per the seller the car fired up quickly after primarily sitting in a garage in recent years, and around 50 miles have been added since.
Several leaks have been found underneath the vehicle.
