Sellers description:
1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Drophead Coupe
Chassis No: S677155
Engine No: W8443-8S
Body No: P1157

Highly desirable LHD US-delivery Special Equipment Model

Numbers-Matching as verified by the JDHT Certificate

A Genuine Virginia Garage Find

Incredibly solid condition and attractive original colors
There are also those who love the cars just for what they are and can appreciate the patina of a car like this. The XK120 SE Drophead Coupe presented here offers so many options for the next lucky owner.

This original left-hand drive Special Equipment Drophead Coupe was completed on May 8, 1953, and dispatched to the U.S. on May 15, 1953 through Hoffman Motor Car Co. in New York. The DHC was the most luxurious and expensive 120's available for the first time in 1953. Whereas the roadster was a bare bones open car, the drophead coupe featured exterior door handles, retractable glass windows an insulated boot that can lower within seconds and lavish wood throughout the deluxe interior.

To enhance the motoring experience - this particular 120 was fitted with the more powerful Special Equipment package. The SE Model (known as XK120M in the States) gave a power boost to 180bhp using high lift camshafts and carburetors. The 120 also features lightweight aluminum hood, doors, and trunk. Wire wheels and fog lights were fitted as standard, as was overdrive. The options and original specifications are verified by the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate which is included with the sale.

Just discovered residing in a hidden Virginia garage alongside other equally impressive British sports cars, this XK120 DHC benefits from great previous ownership of 25+ years before being parked just over a year ago. It appears to have received a ground-up restoration quite some time ago with strong patina throughout and a beautiful nostalgic appearance in its original factory colors and woodwork.

Acquired recently in non-running condition we have turned the engine over and it attempts to start but additional servicing will be required before driving. A service of the brakes and a thorough check over of the mechanicals will be required before driving. With so many other projects in line we are offering S677155 as-is where-is and hope that the next owner enjoys the process of making her road worthy again. It's a wide open book, we welcome and encourage inspections from any interested parties.

It is important to note that this car is completely solid and with no corrosion issues. All of the numbers match including the engine block, head, transmission and body.

Priced at: $76,500.00

This car is in my possession in Tehachapi, CA as of July 2016, however, at this present time someone named "michaeder5" is illegally auctioning this car (677155) on Ebay. using data and photos from this website!

Last week I spoke to a person from North Carolina who said he wired money to an account in a bank in Queens, NYC to buy the car which, "supposedly" was located in Marshall, WI. The car ,of course, was not in Marshall, WI (because it is in my possession in Tehachapi, CA)...and the "scammer" has vanished!
The FBI, Ebay, and NY DMV, in addition to a private investigator, have been notified of this scammer.

1953 Jaguar XK 120 SE Drophead Coupe

$90,000 - $110,000

RM | Online Only - DRIVING INTO SUMMER 21 - 29 MAY 2020

Chassis No. S 677155

Engine No. W 8443-8S

Gearbox No. JL 15274

Body No. P1157

Desirable, factory-built “MC” model restored in its original colors

Shipped new to Max Hoffman’s New York distributorship, a U.S. car from new

Retains its original engine, gearbox, and bodywork

According to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, this particular XK 120 was fitted from new with the desirable Special Equipment package. Referred to as the SE or M (for “Modified-Competition”) package on U.S. delivered XK’s, this was introduced in 1951 to keep the XK 120 competitive against its European rivals. The package consisted of outfitting the engine with high-lift camshafts, stiffer rear springs, dual exhausts, and a lightened flywheel. This helped to give the XK’s engine an additional 20 horsepower, brining total output to 180 horsepower.

Originally finished in Black paintwork with a Red leather interior and a Black top, this XK 120 was completed by Jaguar on May 8, 1953 and was dispatched to Max Hoffman’s iconic New York City distributorship one week later. While its early life is largely unknown, it is believed that the car resided in the Midwest during the 1970’s, as it was shown at the Jaguar Association of Greater Chicago Concours d’Elegance in 1976 and 1977. Later, it was purchased from the estate of Fredrick Bainbridge III, an architect residing in Ivy, Virginia in 1992 and was immediately shipped to Grand Touring Classics of Charlottesville, Virginia, where it was fully restored in its original colors.

Upon being purchased by its current owner in California in 2013 after Mr. Bainbridge’s passing, the car was sent for a cosmetic and mechanical refreshing at Automotive Technical Service of Bakersfield, California. This included new paint, upholstery, a new burl walnut dashboard and windowsills, rechromed front and rear bumpers, and new chrome wire wheels with whitewall tires. Importantly, the car retains its original engine, gearbox, and bodywork. It is accompanied today by an owners and technical manuals, tool kit, jack, grease gun, tire pump, wheel knock-off hammer, and bumpers. Also, the car is fitted with a windshield washer system.

Since its most recent refreshening, the car has appeared at a handful of shows in California, including the 2017 Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance and the 2017 Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally, where it won Best Jaguar. Ready for more shows or to be enjoyed on the open road, this beautiful XK 120 will surely receive lots of attention wherever it goes.
