Seller's description:
1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe Left Hand Drive
Chassis number: S818682BW
Registration Number: 695YUY
The best XK140 we have ever handled & a very late production car. This car was nut & bolt restored without regard to cost some 6 years ago to as new for a wealthy South African collector. We previously sold the car for £239k including the donor car and restoration. Since then the car has been stored in the UK & used just once a year or so for a summer tour of the UK & europe. Indicated mileage is now just 6359 miles. The car has needless to say been utterly reliable on these tours & has been run a few miles each month to keep it in good fettle when not being used.
The brief during restoration was to make the car as everyday useable as possible. To that end it has had numerous upgrades. The gear box is a 5 speed Getrag unit. A high Torque starter has been fitted. The radiator is a high capacity aluminium item. Upgraded disc brakes are fitted & the engine has an SE C type head. Fitted luggage is found in the boot & also in the occasioal seats to the rear. The 5 speed 'box makes for very relaxed high speed cruising. A somewhat redundant Kenlowe fan was also installed for additional cooling but has not been needed.
The original car was a solid sound but original California car purchased from Beverly Hills Car club for the restoration process to begin. The car is finished in unmarked British Racing Green with a pale green hide interior to match along with a green mohair hood & green carpets. You have to see the paint to appreciate the quality of it.
After the first tour the customer found the clutch to be a little heavy when in traffic. Accordingly we sent the car to noted specialists JD Classics who fitted a high capacity Master cylinder resulting in a now very very light clutch action. JD Classics also went fully though the car giving it a service & tuning it to be the best it can be performance wise.
All chrome has been redone & the car sits on brand new chrome wire wheels fitted with knock off spinners & new tyres. All woodwork was removed & refinished to a high standard. As a result we are proud to offer the ultimate Left Hand Drive XK140 DHC nicely run in & ready to be shown or toured.
This is a car that is faultless & perfection needs but few words.

• Numerous highly desirable upgrades
• Present ownership for the last eight years
• Professionally stored and maintained
This left-hand drive XK140 drophead coupé was delivered new to Jaguar Cars, New York and sold to its first owner in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. The car left the factory finished in cream with red interior and black hood, and was equipped with automatic transmission.
Circa 2014 the XK was totally restored by respected marque specialists JD Classics for its South African collector, whose brief was to make the car as usable as possible. To that end the following upgrades have been incorporated: C-Type cylinder head; Getrag five-speed gearbox; limited-slip differential; disc brakes; electronic ignition; improved shock absorbers; and a high torque starter motor. Fitted luggage may be found in the boot. On completion the car was stored in the UK.
The XK has been used only for short trips to Europe and around the UK. It is said to have performed faultlessly, is serviced and a joy to drive. The car is professionally stored at Kenworthy & Co Vintage Motor Works Ltd and fettled after each trip. It has been meticulously maintained by JD Classics, whose detailed bills for annual servicing and maintenance between 2015 and 2018 total many thousands of pounds (inspection recommended). Last comprehensively serviced by Woodham Mortimer (JD Classics' parent company), the car is offered with a history file of documentation and a V5C Registration Certificate.
