1957 Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe- Restored
I purchased this XK150 from its third owner, an American who, during the 1990s, lived in Weissbadden, Germany, and while there had the car restored to its current condition. (Included is a large comprehensive file with receipts documenting the frame-off restoration.) The car was then used as an occaisional daily driver, shows beautifully, and has a nice, even patina.
The entire structure was zinc-chromated prior to repainting, all joints were finished with lead and, as a result, there is no rust. The car has excellent panel gaps, and the doors do not drop when opened. (Door hinges were rebuilt). The paint is still excellent, and has not deteriorated. (There are a few small stress cracks in the paint directly beneath the Jaguar mascot on the bonnet.) When sighting down the sides of the car, everything appears very straight. The complete interior, including the headliner, was replaced with correct materials supplied by Bartletts, including new wood seat frames and stuffing. The windshield and side glass were replaced with new Pilkington Triplex. The chrome is, for the most part, excellent, the one exception being the trunk lid handle, which appears tarnished.
The Borg warner automatic transmission has been rebuilt, the exhaust replaced with a new system, the gauges rebuilt, and the steering wheel restored. I recently had the generator rebuilt. The engine does not smoke, idles smoothly, and revs freely with good oil pressure.
Some updates have been performed that have made major improvements to the car's usefulness and drivability. White Post Restorations rebuilt the stock 4 wheel disc braking system. Subsequently, the front calipers have been replaced with Coopercraft 4 piston units- you have to drive this car to believe its stopping power. The car drives hands-off straight down the road, without vibrating or pulling. The radiator has been rebuilt with a modern core, and a large thermostatically-controlled cooling fan has been incorporated, resulting in 80 degree C. water temperatures on a hot day. The headlights are Bosch H4s, with supplimental Lucas driving lights. The car rides on a set of 'period' 16 inch Michelin "X" tires, is comfortable and pleasant to drive, and would make an ideal tour or rally car- it even has an authentic Halda Tripmaster rally instrument. This XK150 was produced in late 1957, and will therefore qualify for all international events. The indicated mileage, "33,470", is not actual.
With 7 days 5 hours left in the auction there have been 17 bids to a price of US $24,100.00 (Reserve not met)
