Car was at auction 10/06
www.brightwells.com/classiccars/PastResults/tabid/321/Default.aspx

Auction description:
Body colour: White
Date Manufactured: 1959
Registration Number: TBA
Chassis Number: 5835135DN
Engine Number: V2893
History:
Purchased in America in 1989 by the current vendor, this particular LHD Texas car had reputedly had the proverbial 'one lady owner' from new. Although the car was in excellent, original, rust-free condition, the new owner was not happy with the maroon paintwork so, once back in the UK, he undertook a full body-off, engine-out refurbishment to change the colour to Old English White. No corrosion was detected during these works and all the metalwork remains totally original and unrestored. The chassis and undersides of the car are also in outstanding original condition, presumably thanks to the dry Texas climate where the car reputedly spent its first 30 years.

All mechanical parts were inspected and overhauled as necessary, including the fitment of many new suspension parts and a full stainless steel exhaust system, the intention being to use the car for Continental rallying. The interior was also completely retrimmed in red hide and matching carpets to replace the original black interior.

Pressure of business commitments meant that the vendor never did go Continental rallying and, although it has been regularly started and driven to the MOT station, the car has covered virtually no miles since the refurbishment was completed. It is still said to drive extremely well with a startling turn of speed and a magnificent exhaust note when provoked! Due to have a fresh MOT before the sale, this represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a rock solid car at a fraction of the refurbishment costs to date.

NB The registration number shown will be replaced with an age-related plate before the sale

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
